Texas GEAR UP in Action: Peer Mentoring Program

When it comes to mentoring, the Central ISD team has hit on a decidedly winning solution: help students to help each other! After trying out different styles of mentoring without seeing the results they were hoping for, the team implemented a peer-mentor program—and that proved to be the magic solution. Mentors and mentees are paired by one staffer who knows the students well, so their personalities, academic alignments, and family situations are all strategically matched. The result? Confidence coming from the mentees, volunteer satisfaction from the mentors, and a big win-win for the entire district.
