CTE TEKS - Implemented 2017-2018, adopted in 2015

Federal Law Enforcement and Protective Services course scope and sequence within the Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security Career Cluster® summarizes the content to be taught, and one possible order for teaching the units of instruction. A brief description of each unit and the corresponding TEKS are included. This scope and sequence may be adapted or adopted by the local education agency.

Based on the House Bill 5 Foundation High School Program, the Corrections Officer program of study within the Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security Career Cluster® provides helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals. This document is designed for students, but can also be used by administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents.

In this lesson, students will discuss the rights protected by the 4th Amendment and the legal responsibilities for private security professionals.

In this lesson, students will develop guidelines that security officers may use to avoid civil lawsuits, and they will participate in role playing situations to practice responding appropriately to given incidents.

In this lesson students will discuss the Juvenile Law/Justice Process, and they will analyze the similarities and differences between juvenile and adult offenders.

In this lesson, students will discuss the different sources of law, the impact of legal issues on security services, and the regulations and requirements that affect security operations.

In this lesson, students will explore the role of security system by creating a list of risk and vulnerabilities that organizations are exposed to. Students will also complete a security survey.

In this lesson, students will discuss computer forensics, and complete an activity in which they will process an electronic crime scene. Students will understand how computers and other electronic data storage devices leaves the footprints and data trails of their users.

In this lesson, students will complete a security system sales-based presentation, participate in a scenario-based activity, and complete a security inspection.

In this lesson, students will discuss Homeland Security. Students will complete a scenario-based assignment in which they will discuss how to react in a disaster, make a list of potential terrorist targets, and research a past natural disaster or terrorist attack.

In this lesson, students will diagram the crime triangle, discuss deter, detect, delay, and deny, and evaluate the security of a home or business. 

In this lesson, students will discuss terrorism and natural disasters. Students will also present a briefing of a recent terrorist attack on the United States, and they will discuss how the attack changed public laws and security.
